What Is Counseling?
Counseling is the process of making changes- changes that are enhancing to your life. There is some work involved that can be hard. There may be some emotional pain involved. But nothing is without a price. And that does include change. It sometimes can be intimidating. And sometimes frightening.
People joined in marriage and other committed relationships sometimes find themselves at an impasse. One or both partners find that communication is not where it once was, closeness is lacking or that maybe anger over unmet expectations surfaces. Having an impartial third party facilitate meetings and ask tough but pertinent questions can allow for individuals to be "heard" and to begin to sort out differences.
The counseling process is designed individually with each person and each family in mind. The uniqueness and value of each is respected. Fot rhat reason it is uncertain how long the process will take. For some people the problems that bring them to counseling can be resolved in just a few meetings. For others, there may be a longer need.
While counseling can be valuable in couples and family situations sometimes the need is on a more individual level. During times of transition it can be nice to have someone help with the discomfort and worry that often accompany the uncertainty of the unknown. Retierment, separation from the military, finishing or returning to school and career changes all come with excitement and apprehension. Counseling can help provide for some support and guidance through the tough times.
